It's that time of year again, the dark nights and frosty mornings are here. With the weather getting colder, you might be thinking about the storage of your motorhome or camper, or more specifically care of your air suspension this winter.
VB systems in winter
Although our systems are highly adaptable to changes in the weather, we have gathered a few tips and tricks to ensure your VB-System is well looked after during the winter months. We'd draw comparison between our air springs and tyres: although the systems are very robust, if you let the air springs become deflated in storage then, much like a tyre, they will start to lose shape and eventually become flat.
Cleaning your system
Before storing your vehicle away for the winter, we recommend giving your air suspension system a quick clean. You can use a mild (non-reactive, neutral) soap solution to clean your system. Ensure your air springs and the pistons (on which the bottom of the air spring is mounted) are cleared of grit, road slat and dirt before storage. Also, make sure you give the air compressor, valves and any fittings a good clean to stop any corrosion while your van is not in use.
Check the functionality
When preparing your camper or motorhome for winter hibernation, double-check that the air suspension system is maintaining pressure and functioning properly. We always advise keeping some pressure in the air bellows (a minimum of 0,5 Bar for SemiAir systems) when the system isn't in use, this ensures the bellows don't deform during storage.
Storing your vehicle
When putting your vehicle in storage over the colder months, it's always best have it covered up or under shelter where possible. Whilst in storage, it's always a good idea to turn on your air suspension system and allow it to move periodically. Then, once the nice weather returns, make sure you re-inflate your system and do any checks before its time to hit the road again!
And for that extra peace of mind, our trained and accredited VB-Dealers can be booked to carry out post-winter storage checks when required, to ensure your ready to get back out there, once the sun decides to make an appearance again!
